The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
What is The Tipping Point about?
This book is all about how things spread – that could be anything from viruses, to ideas, to fashion trends, to behavior and social norms.
The author, Malcolm Gladwell, analyses the magic moment of when things ‘tip’ and start to snowball. The book explores what causes such epidemics.
Who is this book for?
Although this book would be an interesting and enjoyable read to anyone who picks it up, it’s especially great for marketers, small business owners, and entrepreneurs – basically, anyone who is looking to spread/promote some form of idea/product/service or to create some form of viral marketing.
Best one yet
The reason is because The Tipping Point provides you with a little bit of actionable content, something that I thought was lacking in his other books.
Yes, all of his books (or at least the ones that I have read so far) discuss both sides of a story, they analyze different results and then try to produce a conclusion based on the theory that the book is about….but this book goes one step further.
Gladwell provides you with three laws to create a tipping point – which you could describe as three laws of virality. These laws provide extra value and need-to-know information for any marketer.
My overall thoughts
You cannot go wrong with one of Malcolm Gladwell’s books. You will always find them to be thought-provoking, interesting, and a joy to read.
But if you are a marketer, I would recommend that you pick this book over his others. I believe that you will find this one far more useful and practical.
