How to Make a Living with Your Writing: Books, Blogging and More by Joanna Penn
About How to Make a Living with Your Writing
I got this book when I started blogging as I wanted more of an insight into how I could re-purpose content.
As you would expect, How to Make a Living Writing provides you will all the information you need to know about the publishing industry, as we as guidance on becoming an independent (indie) author using platforms such as CreateSpace and Amazon.
There are a lot of ways to make money out of writing besides the obvious route of printing and publishing books. Yes, this process is included in the book, but Joanna Penn also explains how to tap into other markets, such as:
- Product sales
- Affiliate income
- Professional speaking
- Consulting and coaching
- Advertising and sponsorship
- Freelance writing
- Using content marketing to help boost businesses.
You can write, but can you sell?
We’ve all heard a lot about failing authors. Those who spend a huge amount of time writing a piece of work, but when they finally launch it on Amazon they make zero sales.
The problem is that they don’t know how to market!
They could be the most skilled writer, but if they don’t know how to package and sell their work, then they’re not going to get very far.
This book teaches you how to do everything except the actual writing
So, if you can do the writing part, this book will show you (as the title suggests) how to make a living from it.
My overall thoughts
Because Joanna Penn has been making a living from her writing for quite some time, it doesn’t come as a surprise when I say that this book is really well written!
If you do anything that involves putting words onto paper or a screen, then you need to get this book.
The author tells you everything you need to know in an easy-to-digest manner. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
